The authors found no relationship between personality traits and the timing of retirement, but did find that those low in Neuroticism and high in Extraversion reported higher retirement satisfaction, and those high in Extraversion reported higher postretirement activity levels.

The authors report that the three main factors augmenting depression were neighborhood socioeconomic influences, residential stability, and racial/ethnic composition, with positive neighborhood socioeconomic influences being significantly protective against worsening symptoms.
